Gigantochloa Atroviolacea Giant Black Bamboo

Hibanobambusa Tranquillans 'Shiroshima'

The name Hibanobambusa means bamboo growing on Mt. Hiba. My strongly variegated white striped leaves make me a very attractive ornamental, unique amongst other bamboos.

I do well in a mostly sunny place, and sometimes when grown in strong sun, some of my leaves have purple tones in the variegation.

I can reach 15 feet in height, but usually I am much smaller, and am particularly decorative grown in pots, which can be moved around the garden or patio to accent other plants.

I am considered very cold-tolerant enduring winter temperatures as low as 0°F (-18°C).
