Gigantochloa SumatraI come from the Island of Sumatra, and have a very unique color to my new and emerging culms. For a period of time, while my culms are young they have a deep green with stripes of a beautiful light pinkish white color running the length of the internode. After about six months, this fades and my culms become solid green. Because of my gorgeous color during times of new culm growth, I can be used as specimen plant or potted in a container. In appearance, I am similar to Bambusa Oldhamii, but much more desirable aestetically. I am a fast and satisfying bamboo to grow, putting out arcing canes in the first year, then becoming more erect after that. I will grow up to 30 feet tall with 3" diameter canes that are very vertical and compact. I do well from sea level to at least 3000 feet, and I am a good windbreak or privacy screen. |
