Fargesia Nitida
"Blue Fountain Bamboo"

I'm a very graceful bamboo with an arching, cascading habit when mature. I have slender red-purple or dark brown-purple canes that becomes more pronounced with some sun exposure, setting off my small, lance-shaped, dark green leaves. My new shoots have a waxy blue-white powdered coating, giving me the name Blue Fountain Bamboo. I also have a boquet-like appearance, since my culms seem gathered together at the base due to my clumping or pachymorph rizome root habit.

I am well behaved and upright (like a fountain instead of an umbrella), a superb bamboo for a shady spot. I like fertile, moisture retentive soil in full or part shade. I can attain a maximum height of 15ft (5m) with 1/2 inch culms, and I am extremely frost hardy.
