Bambusa Lako
Timor Black Bamboo

I am an incredibly beautiful and desirable black clumping bamboo. My culms are actually green when they emerge and for most of the first year. After awhile, my colors age to a rich, deep purplish brown-black with occasional green stripes running vertically. In the right conditions, I can grow 40 feet tall and my culms can reach 3 " in diameter. In tropical conditions, I grow rather quickly, but need the right soil conditions to reach my optimum potential.

When most people think of black bamboo, they cringe when they remember what an aggressive runner most of these are. But I am a true clumping bamboo, a member of the bambusa family, and I will never go running.
